La Chatte is a cinematic and psychologically charged photograph by Oxana Jad, in which an apparently quiet domestic interior becomes a scene filled with ambiguity and suspense. The solitary female figure, standing at the threshold between the illuminated room and the darkness outside, gives the image an almost narrative quality — as though we are witnessing a single frame from a story whose beginning and ending remain deliberately unknown.
Light plays a central role in the composition. The warm artificial illumination of the interior contrasts with the darkness beyond the balcony, while reflections, curtains and architectural details create multiple visual layers. Jad uses this carefully constructed setting to explore themes that recur throughout her photographic work: intimacy, solitude, observation and the uncertain boundary between private reality and imagined narrative.
Printed as a large-format Lambda print measuring 70 × 105 cm, La Chatte has a strong visual presence. This example comes from the very small edition of 5 plus 2 artist’s proofs and is hand-signed, numbered and dated by the artist.
