Martin STRANKA

Martin Stranka (°1984, Most, Czech Republic) is a Czech fine art photographer known for meticulously constructed images that occupy a dreamlike space between reality and imagination. His photographs combine cinematic atmosphere, carefully staged composition and a strong sense of emotional stillness, often exploring themes of solitude, memory, human vulnerability and the relationship between people and nature.

Entirely self-taught, Stranka initially studied economics in Prague and turned to photography after the unexpected loss of a close friend in 2007. What began as a deeply personal form of expression gradually developed into a professional artistic practice. Rather than documenting reality, he constructs scenes in which landscapes, animals and isolated human figures become symbolic elements within carefully controlled narratives.

Stranka's photographs are characterized by muted colour palettes, dramatic natural settings and moments that appear suspended in time. Series such as I Found the Silence and Dechem explore the boundary between inner experience and the external world, while his use of digital manipulation allows him to create images that remain photographically convincing despite their surreal and often impossible circumstances.

His work has received extensive international recognition, including major successes at the Sony World Photography Awards. In 2019, Stranka won both the Creative category of the Open competition with Dreamers and Warriors and the Czech Republic National Award, following an earlier Czech National Award win in 2018. He has received more than 80 major international photography awards and has exhibited widely across Europe, Asia and the United States.

Today, Martin Stranka continues to live and work in Prague. His distinctive combination of photography, cinematic storytelling and psychological introspection has established him as a recognizable voice within contemporary fine art photography.
